Home design apps can be very useful, whether you're building, renovating or simply re-designing your home's interiors. Not only do this application give you an opportunity to visualise the space, both for yourself and for explaining your plans to your builder or decorator, but also a to-scale model for planning the layout and position of furniture.
The goal was to create a platform for mobile devices where users can experiment with their own home interior making it easy to showcase their ideas to their architect or interior designers. Also making it a platform to buy furniture and home decor with the information to contact designers and architects who would get in contact with the user. Design goal was to make a user friendly interface with consistent design and playing with the negative space.
Challenge faced me here was taking this project as a real paid project for which I asked one of my friends who is an interior designer to act as the stakeholder and owner for the application. This made it easier for me to understand and learn about home renovation and interior design to even start with the prototyping of the application. After the start it was many iterations and usability tests. This design really received great feedback from 20 out of 30 users on which I made some usability tests.
I successfully accomplished designing this application in a period of 3 months from scratch, unfortunately, this never went into development but I would have enjoyed the learn how it would have faired for the developers and what were the aspects that were missing. In the end, this design got me more referrals for my Freelance Business.
I learned tricks and methods for using Adobe XD as the primary application for designing applications and making a clickable prototype out of them.
